Grid Upgrade Project for 8 35kV Power Transformers in Kazakhstan
Release Time: 20250402
35kV Power Transformers Project Background
Kazakhstan lies in Central Asia with harsh climate conditions. Winters are long and frigid; northern regions can drop as low as 40 °C, while summers are hot and dry with temperatures reaching 40 °C. Large daynight temperature swings together with frequent windsand events impose stringent requirements on power equipment for lowtemperature endurance, windsand resistance and anticondensation performance.
The Kazakhstan section of the TransSiberian Railway serves as a critical freight hub handling massive cargo volumes. Powersupply security is extremely critical: railway signalling systems, loadingunloading equipment at freight yards and residential zones alongside the track all depend on this local grid. Any power cut would halt rail transport and trigger massive economic losses.
To secure reliable power supply for this key freight corridor, Kazakhstan Railway Authority launched a powersupplysystem upgrade project. It planned to replace ageing 35 kV power transformers along the route, boosting powersupply capacity and reliability for railway operations and residents nearby.
Core project requirements: equipment must withstand extreme climate ranging from 40 °C to 40 °C with antifreezing, anticondensation and windsandresistant capabilities. GOSTK national certification for Kazakhstan is mandatory. Short delivery schedule and comprehensive aftersales support were also required. Drawing on our rich trackrecord for alpinezone projects and qualified product solutions, Jinma Electric won the tender and undertook supply of 8 sets of 35 kV power transformers.
Jinma Electric Alpine Solution
Targeting Kazakhstan’s extreme cold, windy and sandy operating environment, our technical team customdesigned the S11M6300 kVA/35 kV oilimmersed transformer for this project. Multiple special technical treatments are adopted to guarantee stable equipment performance under harsh field conditions. Details are shown below:
Model specification: 8 units of S11M6300 kVA/35 kV oilimmersed power transformers for main substation power supply along the railway. Rated capacity: 6300 kVA; voltage class: 35 kV /10 kV, meeting largecapacity railway powersupply demands.
Specialized highcoldenvironment technologies
Vacuum oilfilling process: Transformer oil is injected inside fully vacuum conditions, eliminating water and gas inside oil volume. It prevents oil coagulation under lowtemperature circumstances, avoids coil insulation breakdown and enables normal startup and operation down to 40 °C.
Lowtemperatureresistant sealing gaskets: Specially compound coldresistant rubber seals maintain good elasticity without leakage at 40 °C. They block windsand and moisture ingress to protect internal components.
Forced oilcirculation aircooling system: Fitted with lowtemperature startup fans that can activate normally at 30 °C. Fan speed adjusts automatically responding to transformer load and ambient temperature for effective winter heat dissipation and prevents overheating tripping. Dustproof fan design avoids blockage caused by windsand and adapts to local sandywind conditions.
Anticondensation assembly: Builtin intelligent anticondensation unit automatically activates heating modules once internal humidity exceeds threshold values. It reduces innerchamber humidity, protects coils and cores from moisturedriven rust and extends overall equipment servicelife.
Certification and Service
Certification compliance: Our S11M6300 kVA/35 kV transformer obtained GOSTK Kazakhstan nationalstandard certification plus IEC 60076 internationalstandard certification. Complete certification paperwork ensures smooth gridconnection and acceptance by local power authorities.
Technical services: Considering Kazakhstan’s severe climate and limited onsite construction conditions, we dispatched senior technical specialists with more than 10 years of alpineregion project experience to deliver onsite installationcommissioning guidance and fullrange professional support:
Installation guidance: We guided client installation work adapted for local climate and site constraints, focusing on foundation frostproof treatment and earthing protection to satisfy installation specifications.
Commissioning & testing: Comprehensive tests covering electrical performance, lowtemperature endurance and sealing performance were carried out to confirm all technical indexes hit design standards.
Personnel training: Full Englishlanguage operational training was delivered for local railwaydepartment O&M staff, covering routine inspection, fault troubleshooting and winter antifreezing maintenance work. Bilingual ChineseEnglish operationandmaintenance manuals were supplied so local teams can independently operate and service equipment.
Aftersales guarantee: A dedicated aftersales team provides 24hour remote technical support. Local cooperative service outlets inside Kazakhstan guarantee timely onsite response and repair whenever equipment faults appear, safeguarding continuous powersupply security.
Project Effectiveness and Market Value
In April 2025, all 8 transformers completed production and full testing before shipment. Using ChinaEurope Railway Express, goods reached designated Kazakhstan sites within merely 15 days — 20 days faster compared with sea freight — and guaranteed ontime project progress. Guided by our onsite technical specialists, installation, wiring and commissioning for all units were finished within 8 days, and the whole fleet went into smooth commercial operation.
After surviving one full winterseason field trial, all transformers ran stably with zero recorded failures. Measurable project outcomes:
Superb lowtemperature performance: Equipment can start and operate normally under 40 °C extreme cold without icing or oilleakage incidents. Powersupply reliability reaches 99.9 %, securing railway transportation safety and residential power needs alongside the line.
Strong windsand resistance: Premium sealing prevents windsand ingress into equipment housings. Cooling fans operate reliably with stable heatdissipation performance and hardware remains protected against sanddriven damage.
Convenient operation & maintenance: Antifreezing and anticondensation design lowers wintertime O&M workload. After receiving our training, local technicians are fully capable of independent daily inspection and basic fault elimination.
This successful project rollout marks Jinma Electric’s alpineadapted transformer products formally entering CentralAsian markets. It breaks the historical market monopoly held by EuropeanAmerican brands in this segment and lays solid groundwork for future project expansion across Central Asia, Russia and other frigidclimate territories. It also lifts Jinma Electric’s international visibility and technical authority for highcoldregion powerequipment solutions.
